4 Tips For Finding The Perfect Student Housing For You

If you’re leaving home to attend college, then finding somewhere to live is obviously  one of your top priorities. Whether you are looking for private or campus-run accommodations, there will likely be several great options in any college town. Most universities offer affordable dorms close to campus, which is typically the best option when you’re first settling in and getting to know your fellow students. However, not all housing is created equally, so if you’re searching for somewhere to live, here are four tips to keep in mind.

1. Know What You Want

It’s important to know exactly what type of student housing you are looking for. Some, such as this high-end student accommodation in Cardiff from Collegiate, offers double rooms, in-suite bathrooms, on-site gyms, and more. Others may have more reasonable prices, but offer fewer luxuries.  Determine what you truly want from your accommodations so that you can narrow down your options. For example, do you need to be close to campus? Is parking an issue for you? Would you like an on-site dining hall? What about a gym? Don’t forget to work out a comfortable budget, too… and find what you want within your means.

2. Buddy Up

Moving into university halls can be an exciting but daunting experience, especially if it is your first time living away from home. For many students, buddying up with somebody they know helps. If you have a friend who’s attending the same university that you are, see if they would like to room with you, so you’re not totally on your own. Most accommodation providers will gladly fulfill these requests.

3. Search Online

The majority of student housing will be advertised online, so when you’re searching for somewhere to live, search the Internet first. There are several websites dedicated to helping you find suitable student housing, and it’s a good idea to research a variety of options, as each will offer different amenities. Don’t forget to check what the area is like and which supermarkets, public transport stations, and medical care providers are nearby. Checking online reviews is also a great idea, especially if you choose private, off-campus housing.

4. View First

Although appealing online ads could tempt you to put down a deposit straight away, it’s always best to view that dream student property first. If you can’t see your housing in-person due to distance or financial constraints, try to find current student housing residents on social media. Many universities and student halls have Facebook groups where you can chat with current students about the housing accommodations and what to expect.

Moving into student housing is an exciting process, but make sure that you pick the right room for your needs. If you follow these great tips, you’re sure to select a wonderful housing option.

  1. Thanks for pointing out that when choosing a student apartment you shouldn’t forget to check what the area is like and which supermarkets, public transport stations, and medical care providers are nearby. I am trying to help my son choose a student apartment right now so that he can move in early and then focus on being ready for his first year at university. I think it would be smart to choose a place that has a lot of places nearby since he won’t have a car so that he can still get around and get everything done that he needs too.

  2. Thank you for explaining that it’s important to know what features and amenities you want, whether that is an on-site dining hall or a gym. My daughter is moving in to college student housing when she goes in this fall. I’ll share this with her so that she starts thinking about what she wants.

  3. Thank you a lot for this tips! College is not a universal choice for everyone. In order to have a college degree you need to work very hard and patiently. These are the difficulties we face every day. But it is important to overcome these obstacles and move on. After graduating from college, you will find a career that you will definitely like, because a diploma is a good reason to consider the candidacy seriously. I have some materials for you to study here: https://samploon.com/free-essays/bullying/ I think you will be interested to read, and some of them will be useful for studying. In the end it is everyone’s choice whether to go to college or not. Personally my opinion is that it is worth it. Thank you for such an interesting article and I hope you will succeed.
