Grey’s Anatomy fans can now breath a collective sigh of relief! The show will officially air for two more seasons!
ABC announced on Friday that the record-running medical drama renewed with a two-season order. Pompeo, who previously hinted she may want out, will stay put through Seasons 16 & 17, plus add some production duties to her contract. According to Grey’s creator, Shonda Rhimes, “Grey’s will run as long as Pompeo wants to do the show.”
As Grey’s Anatomy wraps up its 15th season, it remains a powerful force for ABC’s primetime lineup. The Shondaland drama currently ranks as ABC’s #1 series for the 2018-2019 broadcast season. To add to the value, Grey’s will run a a total of 25 episodes this season — its highest number in over a decade. People credit executive producer Krista Vernoff with infusing timely issues and paying homage to the show’s rich and creative past.
Grey’s Anatomy is now the longest-running medical drama, surpassing ER earlier this season. Furthermore, leading lady Ellen Pompeo is the highest-paid woman in primetime television.
Along with the breaking renewal of our favorite medical drama, ABC also announced plans to renew two other primetime hits: How To Get Away With Murder and Station 19. Getting the ax after two seasons, however, is another Shondaland drama For The People.
You can catch Dr. Meredith Grey and all the other hot doctors saving lives at Grey-Sloan Memorial Hospital on Thursday evenings at 8:00pm Eastern (7:00pm Central). Or watch episodes anytime with the ABC app or on Netflix.
