Applying to college is a chore in and of itself and can be mentally taxing. Have you been trying to decide whether to attend a public or private college? I would suggest writing a list of all the aspects you are looking for within a college. Once you’ve narrowed it down to a few colleges that you feel a connection with, I recommend you visit the college in person. This piece of advice can be a complete game changer; I know it was for me.

It is important to note that whether you’re going to college straight out of high school, made the decision to attend college at a later time in your life, realized that the college you are enrolled in isn’t for you, or you are wanting to go back to college after a career path change, age is not a factor. There are multiple colleges out there that can fit anyone’s lifestyle!

Here are 4 ways to help you decide what college is the best fit for you:

Traditions

This GIF is exactly how I felt when I started to participate in traditions around campus. Don’t let this scare you! I encourage you to do some research what types of traditions each college provides. Believe it or not, this can be a deciding factor for many students. I encourage you to get involved and push yourself out of your comfort zone. You will feel a special connection with the college of your choice when you put yourself out there. I am so glad I did! Now I find myself going back to campus to participate in traditions as an alum.

Sports

Are you a big sports fan? Do you enjoy watching and attending a sporting event? If sports are important to you, make sure you take into consideration what sports each college offers. You will have the freedom to attend countless sporting events during your college career and you will want to make sure that you enjoy those events. It is important for you to make sure you are having fun in college and not always have your nose in a textbook 24/7.

Classes Offered

Be sure you take some time to research the classes that are offered at each college you are interested in. You don’t want to be stuck taking classes that you won’t enjoy. Make sure that there is a wide variety of courses to choose from. You don’t want to be like Colton, taking classes that you just know you won’t like.

Class Size

You want to make sure that you aren’t bored like Chloe is in this GIF. This is another great thing about being able to pick what college you’re going to! You are able to if a college has small or large class sizes. You’ll want to make sure you choose a college where you’re able to focus and know that you tried your best, regardless of the outcome.

I hope that these 4 tips can help you decide which college is right for you, whether it’s a public or private college. Happy college hunting!
