3 Ways To Buy Less Clothes But Still Have More To Wear

My great grandma was a simple farm woman who always gave out great advice on all kinds of situations and problems in life. When I think about her I remember how she always dressed wonderfully.

She never bought any wardrobe pieces in stores, that was way too expensive for her. Even her wedding dress wasn’t purchased or rented. She made it herself from scratch, with the help of her old manually operated Singer!

A while ago, I started thinking about my great grandma and I realized something that’s obvious, yet so many people don’t even think about it. Even though she didn’t have much money, she could wear classy and elegant clothes because she made them herself! Why shouldn’t I be able to as well?

I blamed laziness for the reason I didn’t make my own clothes. But after I overcame my sloth alter ego, I started saving money and wearing more various wardrobe pieces at the same time.

Please allow me to share my helpful wisdom with you and give you a few tips on how to buy less and wear more by making your own clothes!

1. Buy Less

If I see a wardrobe piece that I like, but would probably only wear once or twice a year, I don’t buy it at all. Clothes are meant to be worn, not to stay in your closet for months. It’s not worth it to buy an item if it will sit in your closet until you eventually decide to give it away.

If you don’t find the clothes you like in a shop, buy some materials instead and get ready to sew.

2. Wear More

Before I started making my own clothes I didn’t even know how much money you could save up by doing so. In fact, the amount of money I’d spend on two wardrobe pieces would be enough for me to sew at least seven of the exact same pieces. Raw fabric comes extremely cheap compared to finished wardrobe pieces, so even with additional costs for purchasing needles and thread and all the other stuff you’ll use, you’ll still have money left in your pockets. If you’re interested in delving into the art of making your own clothes and want to enhance your sewing skills, consider enrolling in machine embroidery classes. These classes can provide valuable insights into incorporating intricate and personalized designs into your creations, adding a unique touch to your handmade wardrobe.

In other words, if you make your own clothes, you’ll be able to wear a lot more for the exact same price.

3. Make Your Own Clothes

It’s true that I had to spend money to buy a sewing machine before I started sewing my own clothes. However, it paid for itself in about two or three months. Not to mention the fact that a large number of them are very beginner friendly so even absolute rookies like me can master them fairly quickly.

Once I got it and learned how to use it properly, something unexpected happened. I was having fun. Not only that, but looking at a piece you made yourself really makes you feel a sense of accomplishment. Little by little, I’ve become decently skilled in sewing! I bet my great grandma would’ve been proud.

The bottom line is this. Why waste money on an expensive thing you can make yourself for just a fraction of that price? Buy less, wear more, and make your own clothes.

  1. I fully support the idea that you need to buy less clothes, but be more conscious about buying. Choose exactly those things that will be the base of your wardrobe, and also pay special attention to the choice of high quality, because then the thing will serve you for more than one season. I advise you to study the range of hoodype in more detail, everyone can find something for themselves
