2019 Is The Year To Stop Comparing Yourself To Girls On Instagram

Come on, we’ve all done it. We go through our Instagram feeds and see all these beautiful girls. They have perfect hair, and perfect makeup. They all seem to be a size double zero, and all the comments on their photos are of guys saying things like “damn.” When we look at these photos we can’t help but think “Why can’t I be more like her?” “Why can’t I be pretty like her?” and it’s time we put a stop to it.

When we see these photos we usually fail to realize that these girls aren’t perfect either. Maybe they are models and they spend hours on their hair and makeup before they take a photo of themselves. Then, they achieve  that “perfect skin” by spending over an hour on Facetune to get the picture to look just right. These girls may seem confident, but they are not perfect. Everyone has flaws, and they should be embraced, not hidden because these flaws are what make us, us.

Maybe you have crow’s feet when you smile. Big deal. Did you ever realize that your smile seems more genuine when the crinkles by your eyes appear? You have brown eyes but you wish they were blue or green? Have you seen brown eyes once they are hit by the sun? They turn this gold, copper color. You can’t get that with blue eyes. Maybe you feel that your laugh is too “over the top,” I can guarantee you that there are so many people who love your laugh, and are genuinely jealous that they don’t have one like that.

All the insecurities that you have someone out there wishes they had, and I can guarantee while you’re staring at that model on your phone they are probably thinking to themselves “Man,why can’t I have HER body/smile/life?”

So before you try to change yourself and how you look, really, really think this over. Your imperfections and flaws are what make you, you. If you didn’t have them it would be as if there is something missing. Next time you think “I should try and look more like “her” take a step back and think “I need to focus on being more like me “ and I promise you, you’ll be happier in the long run.

The world would be boring if we were all the same.
