4 Shitty Things No One Told You About Adulthood

As a kid being an adult seems like the best thing in the world. Even throughout your teenage years, being an adult sounded awesome because you got to do what you want and no one could tell you not to.

Once you turn 18 and go to college you start to realize that being an adult is not all that fun. You have to pay your bills, make your own decisions and be responsible. You start to realize you have to worry about your own life now because  ultimately you’re in control.

I wish there was a book of instructions on how to be an adult. When you first turn 18, it’s difficult to navigate through life. You learn as you go along.

Here are the four shitty things that no one told you about adulting.

Money doesn’t grow on trees

When you’re a kid you tend to have the mindset that your parents could just grow money from a tree. We didn’t think about how our parents would get the money when we asked them for things like a new laptop, or a new iPhone. However, when you hit adulthood you have tostart paying bills. You start to notice little obstacles when you realize the times your parents were mad at you for not taking good care of your iPhone is because money doesn’t grow on trees! They had to work hard to get you that phone.

2. Making decisions regarding your Health care isn’t the easiest

As a kid, I had to go to many different doctors and many physical therapy rehabilitation centers due to my condition and finding the right places for me and my condition wasn’t easy. Sometimes it would be so stressful for my parents to make sure they were making the right choice for me and my health. As an adult, I have to make these tough decisions on my own. Sometimes, I wish my parents could make them for me because it’s not always easy choosing the right insurance plans without loss of benefit.

3. Everything that your parents were once responsible for you’re now responsible for

Once you reach adulthood you become responsible for it all. Paying bills, buying necessary items, dealing with drama, everything falls on you. Although your parents are there to give you advice, at the end of the day, everything falls on you. Adulting is stressful all the damn time. So stressful that sometimes you just need a glass of wine at the end of the night.

4. Nothing is instant anymore

As a kid we seem to think that everything comes fast. It may seem to go by in seconds. But, it takes hard work to get where you want to be in life. In order to get what you want you have to work hard for it, even if it means you have to give up things you love.

Although being an adult can be hard, it’s all part of growing up. Think of all the beautiful things that come along with adulthood. Marriage, career goals, children, just to name a few. This life journey can be one hell of a time!

What would you add to the list?
