2019 Grammy Awards: 9 Artists Who Truly Deserve A Nomination

Cardi B., Kendrick Lamar, Post Malone… What do all of these people have in common? They all received a 2019 Grammy nomination.

Lamar is leading the pack with eight nominations. Drake, Brandi Carlile, and producer Boi-1da follow close behind with seven nods apiece.

But, some may beg the question: what about these artists makes them “good enough” to receive a nomination? The answer is all in the lyrics, bro!

Below are nine song lyrics from various artists who received nominations that highlight why they deserve the nod.

“Tell me what you gon’ do to me / Confrontation aint’ nothin’ new to me / You can bring a bullet, bring a sword, bing a morgue / But you can’t bring the truth to me.”All The Stars, Kendrick Lamar & SZA

“I’m falling / In all the good times I find myself longing / For change / And in the bad times, I fear myself.”Shallow, Lady Gaga, Mark Ronson, Anthony Rossomando & Andrew Wyatt, songwriters (Lady Gaga & Bradley Cooper)

“They trippin’ on top of the roof / Flexing on bitches as hard as I can / Eating halal, driving the Lam’ / Told that bitch I’m sorry, though / ‘Bout my coins like Mario.” — I Like It, Cardi B, Bad Bunny & J Balvin

“I don’t know why, can’t get what I want / But I keep, I keep trying / Found our way through the lost years / Now the day brings it all here.” — Colors, Beck

“Though I have to say goodbye / Remember me / Don’t let it make you cry / For even if I’m far away / I hold you in my heart / I sing a secret song to you / Each night we are apart / Remember me.” — Remember Me, Kristen Anderson-Lopez & Robert Lopez, songwriters (Miguel Featuring Natalia)

“They come to kick dirt in your face / To call you weak and then displace you / After carrying your baby on your back across the desert / I saw your eyes behind your hair / And you’re looking tired, but you don’t look scared.” — The Joke, Brandi Carlile

“L.A. bitches always askin’ “Where the coke at?” / Livin’ like a rockstar, smash out on a cop car / Sweeter than a Pop-Tart, you know you are not hard / I done made the hot chart, ‘member I used to trap hard / Livin’ like a rockstar, I’m livin’ like a rockstar.” — Rockstar, Post Malone Featuring 21 Savage

“God’s plan, God’s plan / I can’t do this on my own, ay, no, ay / Someone watchin’ this s*** close, yep, close / I’ve been me since Scarlett Road, ay, road, ay / Might go down as G.O.D., yeah, wait.” — God’s Plan, Drake

“Police be trippin’ now (woo) / Yeah, this is America (woo, ayy) / Guns in my area (word, my area) / I got the strap (ayy, ayy) / I gotta carry ’em.” — This Is America, Childish Gambino
