5 Simple Ways To Spread Kindness This Holiday Season

It’s the holiday season, everyone’s favorite time of year. A time to reflect, spend time with family, and eat good food. While this is true about the holidays, it’s also all about being kind to others.

During the holidays, we often don’t think about other people. We tend to neglect the less fortunate, the ones who don’t have enough food to feed themselves or their families, and the ones that live on the street day after day with absolutely no home, family, and have nowhere to go. You don’t realize how lucky you are until you see someone going through a very rough time in their lives.

When we spot these types of people, yes, you will spot them no matter where you go, so don’t think you won’t, it pulls at our heartstrings to see them have it so rough. All we want to do is help them in any way we possibly can. Though, there’s only so much you can do.

However, on the flip side, we need to understand that there are people in this world with good hearts and not so good hearts. The people with good hearts will be kind and help someone when they see them struggling, the ones with not so good hearts will just ignore the struggling person when they pass them on the street. This is not what the holidays are about!

Are you that person with a not so good heart? Well then, it’s time for you to start showing just a little kindness this holiday season. Trust me, a little kindness can go a long way.

Don’t know how to show kindness this holiday season? Here are 5 small baby steps you can take to start your road of kindness:

Send cards to service members

In the US our service men and women are fighting for our country and can’t be home with their families this year. Imagine how hard that must be. Take a few hours out of your day and write cards that you can ship out to them. It will mean a lot and let them know that they are being thought of back at home.

Tell a joke to make someone happier

Everyone has their extremely rough and bad days. We are all allowed to have them because we’re human. If you see someone having a bad day, don’t ignore them, tell a joke, any joke. It will make that person feel better and make you feel good.

Donate to a food drive to help feed families in need

There are a lot of families out there who don’t have any food to eat whatsoever, or maybe even very little. If your community or town hosts a food drive, donate to it! Even if it’s just two cans of food, it’s better then nothing.

If you’re in line at a fast food place, pay for the person behind you

If you are in any fast food drive-through line and you’re sitting around waiting for your food, there may be someone behind you in line who are struggling to get by. Take it upon yourself to pay for them. Who knows, maybe they’ll return the favor and pay it forward back to you.

Give a toy to a child whose parents really can’t afford toys this year

Let’s be real people, little ones love Christmas. The one thing they love getting is toys. The reality is, there are some parents who can’t afford to buy their child even one toy….This is where you come in. Buy a few toys from your local toy store and donate them to parents who might desperately need them. That way, they can get wrapped and placed under the tree so the child has something to open on Christmas Day.

For the rest of the holiday season, take the time to be kind to others.  Everyone deserves a little kindness every now and then, but the holidays are most important to show it. You never know who may have lost a loved one or who may be going through difficult times. Make their days better by being kind this holiday.
