Why My Mom Is More Than Just My Muse, She Is Everything

A muse is someone who inspires you.

For me, that person is my mom. Others may have a different muse for different aspects in their life, but for me, I only have one. My mom as always taught me that my voice matters, that what I have to say matters. This is why my mom matters to me and why I consider her to be my muse.

She has raised two girls with special needs and run a household for over 30 years. As a matter of fact, she still continues to do so, even after they diagnosed her with degenerative disc disease several years back. Of course, because of her back condition, it has to be adapted, but it’s nothing we aren’t used to as a family. And, when the doctors told us that my father has cancer almost two years ago, my mom once again became the anchor of strength in our family.

With everything my mom faces on a daily basis, she manages to put a smile on her face, even though she is in immense pain 24/7. She keeps her spirits high for all those around her.  Not once has she ever asked herself out of pity or for attention, “Why me?” She has never made excuses, either.

My mom has always owned who she was and is, which I have always admired.

She has taught me a lot about life, including to always fight and never give up on my life or myself. The ultimate fighter to overcome countless twist and turns and always remain standing has always been my mom.

My mom embodies so much strength that I know my sister’s and my strength is because of hers, plain and simple. My mom has faced some unimaginable things in her lifetime. But, one of the many things I have always loved about my mom is that she’s always chosen to follow her own path and live on her own terms.

Even when she faces judgment or criticism from the infamous peanut gallery of spectators who have never walked a mile in her shoes, she takes it in a stride. She possesses a fire of determination and spunk that I have never seen in anyone else before. Her confidence has made her a pro at surviving shit’s creek over and over again.

It’s funny to think that when we were little, we thought magic was real.

But, when we grow up, we don’t believe in that magic anymore. The truth is that the magic does exist. For me, it exists in the awe-inspiring, beautiful muse who gave me life. I love you, mom.

Mom, you have always found a way to keep our family together, no matter what was going on. You always have put us first without hesitation. I know no one is as close to selfless, loving, generous, or kind as you are. I strive to be one-tenth of the woman you are. Thank you for being my inspiration; my beautiful muse in this life.

It is truly a blessing to be your daughter and to hear people tell me how much I look and act like you. I hope you never doubt the person you are, or what an amazing mom you are to my sister and I.

Mom, we will, and always will, consider you the best of the best.
