How To Boost Your Body Confidence & Own It In The Gym

If you’re a more self-conscious gal like me, going to the gym can be a nightmare. Having to wear tight gym clothes, getting red-faced and sweaty, feeling like everyone’s staring at you while you work out… It can be pretty daunting. And it seems like there’s always a group of women with the most perfect bodies and coordinating outfits, just effortlessly exercising while you puff and pant away. Unfortunately, it’s a vicious cycle. If you don’t go to the gym and start exercising, you’re never going to boost that body confidence. Exercise is amazing for both your physical and mental wellbeing — it’s a fact. Think about all of the serotonin and good vibes that you’re missing out on if you don’t hit the gym!

The trick? Fake it til you make it. Here are some quick and easy ways to boost your body confidence and own it in the gym.

Find a gym style that suits you

If you want to feel confident, you’re going to have to dress confidently. Find a style of gym clothes that suits you, and makes you feel comfortable. This could be covering up, wearing leggings or a baggy t-shirt. Or you can go for something that makes you feel feminine, like a pink tank top.  

It’s totally up to you what you go for, but my advice is to focus on the parts of your body that you do like. Wear something that makes you feel like the goddess that you are, maybe a jazzy new pair of sneakers or some butt-hugging leggings.

Stay supported

It’s not just your top layer that matters when it comes to boosting your body confidence.

It’s what under the surface that counts, and by that, we mean what bra you wear. You need to be comfortable and supported during your workout.

Bring back-up

I find that I’m way more confident in the gym when I’ve got a friend by my side to cheer me on, have a natter with, and laugh with me when I use gym equipment wrong. Having a gym buddy makes you feel way more secure and confident, so it’s an easy way to own it in the gym.

Find someone that works out at your pace so that you’re evenly matched and won’t end up feeling left behind or like they’re holding you back.

And make sure that you have similar goals too — you don’t want to waste your precious workout hours sat on a bench gossiping instead of working up a sweat!
