I don’t know about you, but wherever I work I always seem to be the youngest person in the office. Our generation tends to think differently than the ones previous. I’ve had workplace experiences where coworkers who are in their 40s and 50s who can’t seem to adapt to change and embrace the way our generation thinks. I find this can crumble our confidence in our present and future jobs. If you feel like you need a bit of a self-boost here’s how you can regain your workplace confidence.
Walk around like you own the place
Walking with confidence will not only boost your mood, but it will also give off an impression to your coworkers. If you’re walking to a meeting with your eyes staring at the ground people are going to read you the wrong way and probably won’t take you seriously. If you add some energy to your steps it will show others you are a confident person which will trick yourself into thinking you are too!
Let the criticism bounce off you
If you receive criticism that isn’t true, before letting it get to you, just ignore it. Try thinking of something positive and remind yourself of the great work skills you have! If you practice this your confidence will increase because it will change the way you think.
Continue to learn
Take online classes, read about your profession, and watch TED talks. Increasing your knowledge will build your confidence! It’s easy to self-doubt yourself around coworkers who have plenty of experience, so, if you continue to increase your knowledge your confidence will grow. You’ll know what you’re talking about, and will express your opinions more frequently.
Put on a smile
When you get to the office, put on a smile, greet your coworkers and ask them how they are doing. Presenting this kind of attitude will build your confidence and it’s contagious! This will, again, trick your brain into thinking you’re the most confident person in the office.
Don’t be afraid to speak your mind
You’re not the office mouse. If you have ideas, throw them at your boss! Sometimes they may not like what you pitch to them, but that’s okay. They will see how much you care and love the company you work for. When they do like one of your ideas, your confidence will spike! This is a great way to show the people in the office you know what you’re doing and you’re an asset to the business.
At the end of the day, always remember to fake it until you make it. It’s a popular saying, but it’s so true! Faking it will trick your brain to think more positively, and will also make the people around you think you’re filled with confidence! Start now, and practice it every day. Soon, you will be the most confident person at work!
