Our favorite television doctor, Meredith Grey, is making headlines this week, but it’s not just because Season 15 premieres on Thursday. In a recent interview with Entertainment Weekly, Ellen Pompeo hinted that her time as the beloved Dr. Grey on “Grey’s Anatomy” may be coming to an end sooner rather than later. Pompeo avoided saying anything formal without show creator Shonda Rhimes, but she did share something huge about the future of Grey’s. “I am really feeling like we have told the majority of the stories that we can tell.”
So, when would this superstar’s time as the leading lady of Grey’s Anatomy come to an end?
News erupted in January of this year that Pompeo’s contract received a two-year renewal, meaning she’s committed to the show through Season 16. Beyond that, who knows? She did, however, have this to say: “I still care very much about the show and I think that it takes a lot of energy. So at some point, I have to wrap it up.”
Pompeo began working behind the scenes as director and producer for some of our favorite episodes of Grey’s in more recent years. In addition to her 13 year streak as America’s favorite female doctor, though, Pompeo is also a mother to three beautiful children.
I think we’re all ready to cue up the classic Grey’s vibes with “Chasing Cars” with this news…
Don’t use up all the tissues just yet, though: Season 15 of Grey’s Anatomy premiers with a two-hour special this Thursday at 8:00 PM EST on ABC.
