Everyone has the same 24 hours every day. It’s what you choose to do with those hours that means the most. When it comes down to it, the days seem long, but the years are short. Eventually time catches up to us and we find ourselves thinking we wish we could go back and do things differently. Sometimes we wish we had done anything at all. However, there is a way to avoid those thoughts. The way to do that is to start living for you. It can be difficult because everyone thinks they should have an opinion on how you live your life. But that’s not the case. At some point you have to realize that it is your life and you can’t live through someone else.
Here are 5 ways on how to start living for you.
Give yourself permission to claim your life.
You are the only person who can decide that you are in charge. You have to make your own decisions and be in complete control. If someone else is doing the decision making for you, chances are you are living for them, not for you. It took me a very long time to learn how to claim my own life. But one day I realized this is my life. I need to focus on living my best life.
Stop living in the future.
This was another thing that was extremely difficult for me. I know we all tend to say things like, “someday” or “when I have the time”. Those are excuses that keep us from doing the things we need to do to go after the life we want. Instead we should be saying things like, “why not now?” and “I need to start planning today”. It’s easy to put things off until we think the right moment comes along, but that moment may never come.
Take small risks that push your boundaries.
The only way to fully know what you are capable of is to test your limits. We all have boundaries for a reason, however, sometimes it’s good to stretch out and see what else is out there. I have learned that I should take every possible opportunity because even if I fail, at least I know I tried. Every time, no matter if it is a success or a failure, I learn and grow as a person. That gets me one step closer to living my best life.
Don’t compare yourself to others.
No one has the same walk of life as you. No one has the same capabilities as you. And no one is you and that is your greatest strength. Don’t compare yourself to someone else and where they are because you didn’t take the same journey as they did. It’s easy for us to get caught up in wishing we could be like someone else or have what they have, but we don’t always know the struggles they went through to get where they are. Focus on your own life and know that when the time is right, you will have what you need.
Focus on the things you can control.
You can’t control other people. You can’t control the world. And you can’t control what happens to you. What you can control is what you decide to do for yourself and how you react to what the world gives you. Every experience is a learning experience and only you can control how you react. Take control of your life and you will be set. Make your own decisions and don’t let anyone try to take that from you.
Be accountable for the life you live.
It’s up to you how you spend the life you have. No one can do it for you unless you let them. But if you do that you will never live for yourself and you will never live your best life. Hold yourself accountable for the life you want to live and the person you want to be. It’s all up to you.
We come into this world with what we have. We are born with certain strengths and weaknesses and we should use that to bring value into the world. Your life is yours to do with what you wish.
