This App Will Help You Make Friends If You’ve Moved To A New City

Living in a big city comes with lots of cool, new features; many of which I had no idea even existed before I moved to one. In September, I moved to the St. Pete area for work, and I was really unsure what I thought. It was a huge change from where I was living prior, and I wasn’t sure if making friends would get easier. Well, I found that when you live in a big city, making friends is no longer a chore.

Everyone comes together and really goes out of their way to be your friend. It’s really something else.

My first encounter with a stranger who eventually became my friend happened at Starbucks. I was busy typing away on my laptop, just writing a simple blog post and people-watching. This woman and her friend stopped and leaned over to look at what color nail polish I had on and said, “Hey, guuuurl! twins!” She had on the exact same color nail polish as I did. It was then we exchanged numbers and became instant friends.  I think living in a city really helps you to go outside of your comfort zone.

There is always some fun activity going on that you can attend to meet people.

One of the best ways to meet new people in a big city is to downloading the Meetup App. You put in the city you live in and some hobbies you are interested in. A list will generate fun happenings in your area, and you can attend them and meet people that share the same interests as you. It’s so neat.

There are literally at least 5 events I could attend almost every day.

Meetup is a great way to meet different people, learn about their cultures, get ideas for  blog posts, or learn a new skills. For example, in the area I live in there is a very high Asian population, so I decided it would be fun to take beginners’ Chinese classes.

My Favorite Meetup Events:

  1. Couple’s Sports (All levels invited to join)
  2. Toastmasters (Public Speaking group)
  3. Healthy Eating
  4. Mediation

Most of the events I attend are free or are $5-$7 per session. I believe that it’s money well-spent. What could be better than having fun, laughing, and sharing life with others?
