3 Times It’s Ok For You To Be Completely Selfish

Millennials are always labeled as selfish. It’s 2018, but that hasn’t seemed to have changed. No one notices the endless volunteering, tutoring, helping neighbors, donating to causes we care about, and other things we do for our communities in general. They seem to miss the massive amounts of stress that millennials encounter daily from school, work, and society. Our world has grown and so with it are the challenges we face. While we might not openly share these struggles, it doesn’t mean there aren’t any in our lives.

So being a little selfish about ourselves is not bad, especially when it’s helping us love ourselves. That simple statement is a lot harder than one would think, and yet it’s one of the most important things we can do for ourselves. Here are just a few reasons why, it’s 100% okay, to be selfish.

1. It’s okay to be selfish with your heart.

Sometimes, you have to stop chasing someone that isn’t worth your time. Sure, they make you feel warm and fuzzy. However, it’s not worth it when they only make an effort when they need something. Stop begging people to like or accept you. It’s not worth it. They don’t know how precious you are. They are missing out, and by missing out on you, it proves you deserve better than they’re willing to give.

2. It’s okay to be selfish with your mind.

Stop worrying about things that are out of your control. It can be difficult, but it’s well worth it in the end. The sun will rise and set at the end of the day; things keep moving and so should you. If someone doesn’t text back, that’s okay or if you lose a follower. Don’t let all the negative or small issues stop you from stepping forward. Life goes on and so should you.

3. It’s okay to be selfish with your time.

Taking time for yourself is essential not just physically but emotionally. It’s more than getting a good night’s sleep; it’s going for a walk alone or doing something you love. It’s about putting you, first and not feeling guilty about it. Being alone doesn’t equal loneliness. Carving out a selection of time that is meant for you and you alone, is healthy and can even help you can perspective. Sometimes stepping away from things is the best way to overcome them!

It’s time to realize that you are something worthy. Learning to love and accept yourself takes time to recognize and grow. It won’t happen overnight, but you deserve to be selfish with yourself too. You are worth more than what you think so. It’s time you believe it and take control. At the end of the day, no one will love you more than you love yourself. So it’s okay to be selfish and make yourself feel like Beyonce.
