It’s National Margarita Day And You Need To Celebrate

Happy National Margarita Day!

It may fall on a Thursday this year, but you deserve a break after this long and tiring week. Am I right? Hint: I am.

A Margarita is a cocktail made with tequila, triple sec, and lime juice. You can enjoy it on the rocks, or blended with ice. It’s absolutely delicious and makes you feel like you’re sitting somewhere on the beach when in reality it’s winter and it’s cold.

This fabulous day only occurs once a year so, why should you skip out on celebrating this limey beverage today?

If you’re still not convinced, here are some health benefits you’ll gain today by drinking margs.

It digests well

Some people sip heavy liquor after a meal to help digest it. The tequila in a margarita helps speed up your digestion process by cutting through the fat of a heavy meal.

It’s important to make sure the tequila you’re buying is over a year old if you want it to help digest your food.

Indulge in Vitamin C.

A great margarita isn’t only about the tequila, it’s also about the fresh lime juice. Most recipes want you to put one ounce of lime juice in your drink, which is 13 percent of your recommended daily intake of vitamin C.

It’s Gluten Free.

Real tequila is made from blue agave plans, which is gluten free for all my fellow celiac friends out there. This is why it’s sometimes good to splurge on alcohol.

If you buy cheap tequila, chances are it’s made from a blend of sugars and could have some wheat in it. The blend of sugars is called mixtos, and it’s the reason for your tequila hangover.

It’s important to mention that margaritas are not considered a “health” food. However, if you compare the drink to other cocktails the beneficial attributes are a lot better.

We covered the health benefits, but how do you make the perfect margarita? So, don’t worry we have got you covered on that too.

For one drink:

  • 1 ½ oz. of tequila
  • 1 ½ oz. of triple sec or Cointreau
  • 1 oz. of lime juice

Optional: Rim the glass with salt.

Shake all those ingredients in a cocktail shaker with ice, and pour it on the rocks. If you prefer yours to be frozen, all you have to do it put these ingredients in a blender along with some ice!

Although you may work tomorrow or have school, at least you have a great excuse to settle down tonight and celebrate the national day. Maybe you’ll decide to go out for dinner and buy a margarita, or decide to stay home and watch movies while sipping the drink. But, when 5 O’clock comes rolling around, you need to have a cold margarita in your hand!
