6 Changes You Shouldn’t Be Afraid To Make

When one door closes another one opens, is the typical cliché advice, our friends give us when we are faced with a dilemma. However, many of us don’t actually take that advice because the fear of change has a controlling grip on us. It seems we are even programmed to put a lot of thought into significant changes in our lives and to consider all our options before actually changing something. On the other hand, making mistakes and starting fresh is not the worst thing that could happen, so why are many people still afraid of change and are settling in their lives for less than they deserve. Change should be embraced. So if you ever consider changing these six areas of your life don’t second guess your decision or a second.

  1. Ending Friendships/Relationships

It’s important to figure out if the people around you are the cause of your stress or negative mood. Identifying a toxic friendship might be a bit harder than realizing you are in a harmful relationship. However, pinpointing the exact person in your immediate circle can benefit you in the long run. A friend break up might be especially hard if you’ve been friends for a long time, or the person had been your rock at some point and helped you get out of an awkward situation. However, people change, and their attitude towards you can change as well, that’s why it is so important not to feel guilty to end a friendship that could be causing you harm.

  1. Moving To A different City/Country

Moving to a new city is an intimidating change. However, in the age of technology, there are so many resources that you can use to make yourself feel more at home. There are tons of social media sites where you can now meet people. Plus keeping in touch with your friends and family at home is super easy with the help of social media as well, which can prevent your chances of getting homesick. If you put yourself in a negative mindset where you are afraid of relocating your life you won’t be able to really focus on the positives that the new city has to offer.

  1. Jobs

Quitting your job in the pursuit of something else can be a big challenge. As adults, we have to figure out whether we should follow our heart and do what we love or listen to our head because the bills still have to get paid every month. It’s difficult to get the courage to start looking for something that you actually want to dedicate your life to, but it’s a change that has to happen to be happy.

  1. Putting Ideas Into Action

The thought of failure stops many people from pursuing their ideas and goals. However, it’s important to put ourselves in stressful situations to grow from them and develop into a more confident and well-rounded person. Failure is not pleasant, but the regret of not trying out your brilliant idea might be even worse in the long run.

  1. Getting An Entirely New Style/Look

Dye your hair, get a tattoo, or throw out all your old clothes. Keeping to an image is convenient, and sometimes it acts as a mask for some people. Your friend and family might have gotten used to your style and might not support your recent change. However, the only person you need to satisfy is yourself. So if you think that your conservative look can be spruced up by something else don’t let the fear of change stop you.

  1. School

It might be scary to go back to school after you chose to take some time off. There is, of course, the financial aspect that has to be considered beforehand, but it shouldn’t be the sole reason for not going back. The same goes for leaving school or putting your schooling on hold while you want to pursue something else. The stereotypical stigma of dropping out should never prevent you from trying to achieve what you are really passionate about.

Change can be intimidating. However, if an idea or a situation gets stuck in your head for a long time, the decision should be obvious. The less you settle, the more you will be satisfied with your life.
