Why You Should Treat Every Day Like ‘Canada Day’

Well, Canada’s 150th birthday has officially passed. With that, goes the mentality that Canada is a place worth celebrating. I am here to tell you, that that mentality should never, ever pass by us. Growing up in Canada has been an absolute honor and privilege. To be a part of a country that knows when to stand strong and when to open their arms makes me extremely proud.

Now, there are a few immensely important topics we need to cover. Starting with how crazy awesome Canada is and well, ending with how crazy awesome Canada is, because what else really matters?

For all those Canadians out there, shout out to you for keeping this place as beautiful and incredible as it is! For those of you who come to visit and love every second that you’re here, we welcome each and every single one of you! Lastly, for those of you who have never been, here are a few reasons why you’re missing out.

Canada Spends More $$ On Education Than Any Other Industrialized Nation! That sentence doesn’t even require support, it simply speaks for itself. However, in case you don’t see the argument within it, I can wholeheartedly say that my experience as a student in Canada has been nothing short of remarkable. There is always quirks and possible improvements, but overall, here in Canada, our education system is pretty great.

31% of Canada is Taken Up By Forests: Who doesn’t love an abundance of nature, particularly beautiful forests that help keep the world clean and house thousands of species. Not to mention creating amazing places for hikes, camping and much more!

Canada Has More Lakes Than All Other Countries Combined: Do I even need to elaborate on that sentence? It simply stands for itself. The more lakes you encounter, the more opportunities you have to kayak, canoe, swim, boat, wakeboard, you name it!

Canada Produces 1.5% Of The World’s Food, But Only Consumes 0.6%: Shall I say eat today, thank a farmer? Perhaps we should change it to eat today, thank a Canadian farmer. Making a difference beyond ourselves is always a priority here!

1/5 Canadians Were Born Outside of Canada: This statistic I absolutely love! Aside from many of the First Nations groups, many of us came to Canada from somewhere. Whether or not you moved a hundred years ago or a hundred days ago makes no difference to us.

Canada Is The Best G20 Country In Which To Be A Woman: There is always progress still to be made, but clearly we are leading the way in this case! It makes me proud to come from women who have fought for the lives of all women to come. Canadian women are clearing the path for other countries to follow.

You Can Write In Any Language To “North Pole, HOH OHO, Canada” and Receive A Letter Back From Santa: What a time to be alive! Well, in Canada at least. I can’t wait to try this out this Christmas!

Canada, happy belated birthday! Never stop growing and learning and caring for those within your borders and outside of them. You teach me every day how to be a better person, and for that, you will always be worth celebrating.
