Why Having A Sister Makes Your Life Anything But Boring

Having a sister is a unique experience. If you’ve never had one then you don’t truly understand the experience of loving and hating a human all at once! I mean, I love my sister to death. She’s the one person in the world who I can look at and I know she just gets what I’m thinking.

She’s also the one person who knows all of the best ways to get under my skin. Growing up with her was interesting, to say the least. I’ve never laughed so hard in my life. I’ve also never wanted to punch someone so much in my life.

The day I was born was most likely a tragic day for my sister. She was this cute little blonde afro child, who got all the attention she wanted. Then I rolled onto the scene and stole all the glory! Fortunately for her, she was still undeniably the cute one.

Since then, life has only gotten more interesting for the two of us. I’d like to say you’re welcome to my sister, for being the world’s best sidekick and karaoke partner! However, I’d also like to outright apologize to my parents for the cushions strewn across the floor as we played lava, for the constant blaring of NSYNC and Backstreet Boys, and the sound of singing over top of it.

Also, for all the screaming and the slamming doors, which had them all worried until they heard laughter approximately 12 minutes later. It’s like a rollercoaster ride, but they forgot to test your height, so you get thrown around a little extra in the seat that’s meant for someone twice your size.

Having a sister is like having a separate version of yourself who spends their time reminding you of how much you suck and then later how you are the world’s best person. Confusing, right?

I’m also pretty sure she’s the only person who has seen all of the worst sides of who I am. I mean the angry, the bitter, the dramatic, the stupid, the silly, every single one. I mean the poor girl has had to put up with it all.

Has anyone ever noticed how sisters are the best people to tell news too? I could tell her that I got an A on a practice quiz and she’d be just as excited for me as if I got into med school. A guy could grab my hand and it’d be like he proposed to me. Supportive to her dying day, and because of that she’s one of the first people I go to when anything exciting happens.

After all this fuss, I still know that she will be there taking care of me no matter what happens.

She’s the greatest blessing I ever received! She’s my partner in crime, my favorite nerd, my confidant, my best friend, and so much more. I can’t imagine what my childhood would have been like without her in it, it would have been quiet, calm, and utterly boring. Trying to imagine a future without her would be like wandering around a vacant city. All the structural elements would be there, but there would no color, no vibrancy, no life to it. She’s my sister, and I can promise you, there’s no greater friendship to have!
