4 Things You Forget To Thank Your Mom For

Dear Mom,

Thank you so much for being my best friend, someone I can laugh for hours with and call at any time of the day. I don’t know how you have been able to put up with me for all of these years, but I look forward to many more with you. Even though we talk all the time, there are some things I don’t think I tell you often enough.

  1. Thank you for being the absolute best role model anyone could ever ask for. The way you handle life and the unfair hand you get dealt with such grace is truly inspiring. I know life hasn’t been a cakewalk for you, but you still manage to light up rooms with your smile, even when I can tell you are holding back tears. Your strength is something I have always admired.
  1. Thank you for your honesty. I love how I can talk to you about anything and know you will be able to give the best advice, regardless of the situation. It’s funny how we can go from picking out each other’s outfits, to instantly talking about which doctor on Grey’s Anatomy is the most attractive. The fact that no topic is off limits with you provides a freedom that I consider myself so lucky to have.
  1. This one I know I don’t say enough, but you are one of the most beautiful people I have ever been honored to know. Your personality is one people talk about and compare mine to, and your physical appearance is just as radiant. I want you to know that for all of the times you tell me that I’m pretty, it is not lost on me that I got it from you. I want to thank you for reminding me that I am smart, caring, and loved, and I hope you know that you are as well.
  1. Thank you for being the sister I never had. I love how we can go out for Wine Wednesday or coffee dates and time gets lost on us. I always look forward to spending time with you, regardless of what we may get up to. Finding notes you scribbled on scrap paper or sticky notes are cute little reminders that I have a mom that really loves me. You always know how to make this Paper Bag Princess feel like her four walls are a castle for her to rule.

I know we have had our fights, and I have not been the easiest daughter to raise, but I don’t think anyone could have done a better job, nor would I want them to. I’d like to say I’m sorry for calling you (sometimes more than once) every day, but I’m not apologetic for being selfish enough to want to talk with my best friend all the time. Honestly, as soon as we hang up I’m thinking of what news I could call you back with just to hear your voice a little bit longer.

Most of all, I want to thank you for being the kind of person I am able to call my mother. Your strength, wit, grace, and love are what I strive to have every single day. I miss you from the moment we hang up or you leave, but I am grateful to know you are always here if I need you. Thank you for being the kind of mom I hope my kids see me as. I love you so much, Mommy.

Love always,
Your Little Girl and Biggest Fan
