A Letter To The Sister I Don’t Thank Enough

Ever since we were little kids you would always have my back; in times of need and when I wanted a friend, you were always there for me; always in my corner. Always there to lend a helping hand when I couldn’t reach the cookie jar, or when I couldn’t tie my shoes.

You were my go to person and thankfully you still are.

Now that we are all grown up and starting the new chapters of our lives I wanted to address the most important things about you that you seem to always forget. I know we have our differences, especially now that we are older and going our separate ways, but we will always have a bond that will never pull us apart.

You are my protector, my guardian.

When we were kids and our parents divorced, you were the support I needed. You helped me feel comfort when I lost it in other ways. Now you protect me from boys, from uncomfortable situations, and what you know will hurt me. Some days I feel you know me better than I know myself and I love that about us.

You’re my partner in crime.

It doesn’t matter the situation, you are always there to be a part of the decisions I make; good or bad. I couldn’t be more thankful for that. You’ve shown me the difference between right and wrong, and when my judgment starts to cloud you are there to push me back into the right direction.

You’re a great dancing partner.

Even though you can’t really dance, you still try your best and when we get on the dance floor no one can stop us. I look forward to going out and blowing off steam with you because you always know how to make me laugh and have a good time. You’re the life of the party and have taught me to be a close second.

You push me when I can’t take the jump myself.

When I cannot decide when taking the next step is either good or bad, you are always there to push me to try it. Last summer I did just that and I found who I truly was, and what I wanted my life to look like. I have you to thank for that. Without that push, I would still be in a small town trying to create happiness where all I found was emptiness.

Without you I don’t know where I would be today.

You have great work ethic and I’ve learned mine from you.

Even though we have totally different career paths, I notice how hard you work and it makes me want that same sense of passion. You’ve become such a positive person now that you’ve found your passion and it allows me to look through the hard days, to keep my eyes on the prize.

I admire you and everything you do.

You are my role model and my best friend. I have you to thank for everything I have. It is easy to take each other for granted… we both know I do. I just want you to know that I am extremely happy you found a passion of which you enjoy and could do for the rest of your life. I hope you receive what this brilliant world provides to you and that your life is filled with joy, happiness, and excitement. I hope you live the rest of your life to the way you desire and that you know I am always here for you with whatever curveballs come your way.
