5 Things We All Need To Leave Behind In 2017

I think we can all agree that 2016 was just a shit year all around. I mean, even forgetting everything that happened other than Trump’s “win,” that alone made it shit. There were still a lot of other things piled on top of that, though, that we could have done without. Creepy clowns, Brexit, and losing Prince.

With that in mind, I’ve concocted a list of things to keep in 2016 that will help set us up for a much more promising 2017.

1. Racism

The fact that this even needs to be said says everything we need to know about what type of year 2016 was.

All of the unnecessary murders, berating people in public for being foreign, and bullying because of religious background needs to end. Make your judgements of people based on their personalities, the way they treat you, the way they treat… puppies. I don’t know, just be nice to people if the only thing you have against them is their skin color, damn it.

2. Gender Roles

Being biologically male or female determines the way we reproduce and nothing else.

It doesn’t determine our pay, who can wear makeup, who is strong, who is smart, who can drink who under the table, who should stay home with the kids, etc. Leave that type of thinking behind and join the rest of us in the land of take care of your shit however you want, not how your gender role tells you too.

3. Fit Tea/Waist Cinchers

Please, please, make this new year the one you all finally understand fit tea, waist cinchers, and anything else being promoted by “celebrities” on instagram for money is not healthy for you.

Skinny does not mean healthy. Curvy does not mean unhealthy.

Fit tea is full of things to make your body reject natural hunger and give you the need to use the bathroom all of the time is unhealthy. A tight material wrapping around you, suppressing your breath and moving your organs out of place is unhealthy.

If you want to get fit and healthy the trick has always been the same: healthy diet and exercise. No gimmicks. No easy fixes. Hard work and determination.

4. Lena Dunham/Jennifer Lawrence/Tomi Lahren

Lena Dunham wishes she had an abortion. Jennifer Lawrence thinks scratching her butt on people’s culture is funny. And Tomi Lahren, well, come on! Everyone is totally welcome to have their own opinions, but the woman is delusional… but she doesn’t like labels because she’s a millennial so I guess we can’t label her as delusional.

Let’s stop idolizing people who are in the spotlight and being completely irresponsible with it. Instead we should idolize those who know what their platform means and know what to do with it.

5. #Goals
“OMG #SquadGoals #RelationshipGoals #LifeGoals”

How about #STFU goals? Millennials honestly want the dumbest things out of life.

Millions of followers? Celebrity relationships? Empty mansions no amount of things you buy could fill because the empty void inside of you will always be there? Yeah, your goals suck.

Here are some new goals for us all: Educate. Empower. Stand up. Raise your voice. Change something.

Let’s leave all of the BS back in 2016 and make 2017 the year activists stand up and fight against all of this and more. We have the numbers (our girl Hil won by almost 3 mill) so I know we can do it.

When you see injustice speak up and fight for justice. Educate yourself so you can educate others. And most importantly, just be kind. Even to those trying to oppress, fight them with kindness.

We can only be oppressed if we let them change us.
