Nowadays there are hundreds of different brands to choose from when you’re shopping for cosmetics, personal-care items, household cleaners, etc. That’s why it’s important to know which brands pledge to create their products animal-cruelty free before you go waltzing in Target with a list that’s longer than the Harry Potter Series. Luckily for you, People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA) has an online database of all the companies that do and do not test their products on animals. Even more fortunate for you, I have listed a few of my favorite cruelty-free brands to get you started. Check out these innovative companies that are taking a stance against animal cruelty while continuing to produce quality products:
1. Lush

I cannot say enough how much I adore this company! In addition to never testing any of their products on animals, Lush fights against animal cruelty by informing, encouraging and participating in the fight for animal rights. All of their products are handmade using all-natural ingredients that are 100% vegetarian and free of harsh chemicals. Some of my favorites are the Dark Angels face and body scrub, the Charity Pot body lotion, and the Jumping Juniper shampoo bar.

I have always loved e.l.f because of their extremely inexpensive cosmetics. When I found out that they don’t test any of their products on animals and partner with PETA in the Caring Consumer Project, I was even more motivated to invest my money in their makeup. Some of the most common places to buy e.l.f products include Target, Wal-Mart, Walgreens, and CVS. I love their 12-Piece Professional Brush Set that is only $12.00 and their $6.00 exfoliating scrub. It feels good to save money by purchasing inexpensive cosmetics that pledge to be animal cruelty-free!
3. Mrs. Meyer’s Clean Day

While this company is already taking a stance by pledging to be animal-cruelty free, they are also investing in creating safer household products that are extremely consumer-friendly. All of their cleaners are phosphate-free and made with all-natural ingredients and essential oils to leave your home sparkly clean and smelling fresh. I absolutely love their line of lavender-scented products!
4. Pacifica

Pacifica was created by Billy and Brook Harvey, two incredibly gifted individuals with a deep love for the outdoors. Instead of focusing on marketing, the duo invested in the quality of their products, creating all-natural cosmetics, skin care, and fragrances that are safe and don’t contain harsh chemicals. All of their products are formulated without animal testing, animal ingredients, parabens, sulfates, phthalates, mineral oil, petroleum, peanut oil, and other ingredients that aren’t good for your skin. Although I haven’t tried many of Pacifica’s products, I can’t stop using their Indian Coconut Nectar Body Butter, so I can only imagine how fantastic the rest of their products are.
5. Seventh Generation

The first time I ever bought a product by Seventh Generation it was a happy accident. I ran out of paper towels and blindly grabbed a pack during a mad dash through our local Harris Teeter. When I returned to my apartment I looked up this new-to-me brand and started reading all the fantastic things about their products. Not only are they never tested on animals, but they are sustainably produced using plant-based ingredients. Additionally, all of their paper products are produced from recycled paper material. Since accidentally buying their paper towels, I have purchased Seventh Generation’s dish soap, laundry detergent, and many of their household cleaners; all of which I highly recommend.
6. Urban Decay

Popular for their series of Naked Palettes, beautifully colorful packaging, and a commitment to producing high quality makeup, Urban Decay is one of the best cosmetic companies on the market. I have yet to try an Urban Decay product that I don’t like. Whether you’re preparing for a glamorous night out, or aiming for an all-natural look, their extremely versatile products are perfect for creating hundreds of different looks.
7. Burt’s Bees

From the second I started using this company’s creamy lip balm, I knew I was hooked. Everything from their skin care products to their dog shampoo is of superb quality. I always feel good about buying Burt’s Bees products because they are sustainably produced using 99% natural ingredients and are never tested on animals. Plus, my dog loves bath time with their Oatmeal Dog Shampoo.
With the strong push to put a permanent end to animal cruelty, more and more companies are attempting to switch to safer forms of product testing. With more and more companies pledging to put an end to animal testing, it is important to take a stance and support them, so that fewer animals will suffer and investments can be made towards implementing safer and more sustainable ways of product testing.
