5 Avoidable Mistakes You’re Making In Your Relationship

There’s no doubt that when we start a relationship we tend to become extremely attached to our significant other. Especially in the beginning stages. What often happens, is that over time we tend to forget about having our own lives apart from each other, and it begins to cause problems. Before you know it, you’ve started World War’s 5, 6, 7 and 8.

These are the biggest faux pas couples can commit. So, fix them, and fix them now.

1. Not Interacting With Other People

It’s so easy to get caught up in the hype of a relationship and it’s natural to only spend time with each other.  But when you don’t interact with others, it can make your moments together boring and repetitive. How are you supposed to know how your partner interacts with other people if you never see anyone else? Psychologically it can be damaging and you start questioning, “is he trying to hide our relationship?” If you’re planning on being long-term with this person you should know who his friends are. Take the time to plan a double date, or even a BBQ with a few friends, that way you can learn more about him and it gives you actual memories to cherish.

2. Not Having Dates

I don’t know about you, but when I’m with someone I don’t expect to go out all the time and have date nights. But when you’ve been together for a while you tend to forget about the dates in the beginning stages that helped you develop feelings in the first place. Having a date night can bring back that spark and contribute to a healthier relationship. It could be anything from a cute dinner at a new restaurant to going on a late night drive with some doughnuts and an open sky.

3. Social Media Stalking

Stop being glued to your smart phone and pay attention to the world in front of you. Millennials are guilty of constantly checking Instagram to see whose pictures their man likes. Let’s be honest, none of that matters! Unless a guy is extremely jealous, I can tell you they don’t care about it. If your partner comments something sketchy on a picture, then be a little suspicious. I don’t believe in letting an app dictate the happiness of your relationship. You shouldn’t let social media be the reason for your fights. It’s petty and childish.

4. Not Having Alone Time

Personally, I need that time to sit back and think about life and enjoy doing something for myself. Take the time apart to be productive; hang out with some friends you haven’t seen in a while, have a bath, go for a walk with your dog, do something that keeps you occupied, or just nap. You know what they say, distance makes the heart grow fonder.

5. Texting All Day, Everyday

We live in a world where technology rules all, I get it. But if our parents could date in a time before texting, then why can’t we? Their relationships survived after they had to go a day without talking to each other. It’s not bad to check in throughout the day, but if you text 24/7 you’ll run out of things to say in person. Worse than that, you often rely on your phone being the way to communicate serious conversations. You lose that physical communication, and it only causes more problems.

There is a lot to think about in terms of relationships, but all the issues can be resolved with a few changes. Don’t hesitate to hang out with other people, whether you’re with your boyfriend or not. Don’t be afraid to have your alone time, especially during an argument. Don’t keep your head down in your phone. And most importantly, don’t forget to do simple things to make your relationship grow.
