Why Being Single In The Summer Is Good For The Soul

It’s summer and you just broke up with the person you thought was the one, or maybe they broke up with you. Either way, you’re freshly single and it seems you can not escape all the cute photos of couples and all their romantic summer adventures. It seems like everyone is in love and having the time of their lives. Meanwhile, you’re at home trying to figure what’s next for you. Don’t fret! Whether you realize it or not, this breakup is the best thing for you. Here are three major reasons why being single in the summer is perfect for your personal development:

1. You have spare time to figure out what makes you tick

When you’re in a relationship, you tend to lose yourself in the person you were with. You pick up their mannerisms and make them your own. You even tolerate things that would normally be out of your character, for the sake of making it work with the other person. Now it’s time to figure out what makes you, you, and the summertime is perfect for it. This is the time you spend alone and work on yourself. What excites you? What disappoints you? What are you looking forward to? Find a quiet place and take these couple of months to work that all out within yourself.

2. You can finally plan your next major career moves AND put them to work

At this age, it is essential to have a game plan, but when there is a significant other by your side that game plan is always a bit skewed. We tend to try to merge our own goals with theirs, or maybe even completely disregard ours. Take this time to build a solid game plan and once it’s foolproof, put it to work! That way your future success is sealed and in motion with or without someone by your side. The more time spent on your own plan, the better off you are when you do meet that next some special and trust me you will!

3. You are free to just live

What is life without a little play right? While you’re taking this time to get yourself together, do not forget to insert a little play time. Now that you’re single, you have the freedom to do what you want, when you want. With school being out, you have more room to spend time with yourself and the friends you haven’t seen in forever. You can go out and indulge in your favorite activities without worrying about how someone else feels about it.

At the end of the day, no break up is ever easy. Instead of looking at it as a negative, look at all the positives that it can bring you! Take some serious alone time to develop traits that are unique to you. What do you like to do? What new skill do you want to pick up? Whether it’s hiking, traveling or some other activity you now can figure it out at your own pace.
