10 Signs It’s Time For You To Get A New Job

We have all been there – with the slam of the alarm clock in the early morning hours, we contemplate how badly we really need to go into work that day. Is it really worth the drive? Is it worth the amount of coffee needed to get through it without snapping at someone? Is it worth the effort of controlling yourself enough not to hurl something at a wall in rage?

Truthfully, if you are waking up every day with these feelings, you’re probably not a morning person, but there could be more to it than that. If you can relate to these 10 signs, it may be time to start looking for a new job:

  1. When you start to see more similarities than differences with the Wicked Witch of the West in your boss.
  2. When you are surviving off of energy drinks to get through the work week.
  3. When it takes all of your will-power not to smash your computer like the scene from Office Space.
  4. When the reality sets in that you spend more time with your coworkers than your family, friends, and dog, and it is just too much.
  5. When your boss starts having you do tasks for them that have nothing to do with your job, like their laundry, housekeeping or babysitting their ferret.
  6. When you start contemplating ways to illegally to make sure you do not have to go back to work anymore.
  7. When can no longer hold your resentment back towards your boss/coworkers and the ridiculous things that they say.
  8. When you realize you spend more time at your desk crying than you do getting work done.
  9. When you start debating irrational things. (For instance if you’re starting to feel like waterboarding is a better than your job.)
  10. And finally, this is your reaction every Sunday when you realize that the weekend is over and you have to go do it all over again.

If you are feeling like this about your job, please, whatever you do, do not have a mental breakdown and burn the place down. Having feelings like this about your job is a sign that it might be time to rethink your career. It can’t hurt to look at the job options out there and see what steps you need to take to start moving in the right direction for you.
