Kick Back And Relax: 9 Easy Ways To Unwind After A Long Day

Everyone has a rough day once in a while. The kind of days that get off on the wrong foot with a spilled cup of coffee or a missed bus, and then seem to drag on and on from there. When the end of that day comes (finally), it’s only natural and healthy to want to kick back, relax, and de-stress.

Although we can’t all book a spa appointment, there are a few things that you can do that are affordable and easy, that will help you calm down after a difficult day:

  1. Bubble Bath

This is probably the most obvious one. A bath is every lady’s go to after a rough day. Bubbles, bath bombs, and epsom salts are your best friend when it comes to soaking your stresses away. Take a half hour or so to yourself (or longer because you’ve earned it) and run a bath, it makes a huge difference.

  1. Foot Soak

Whether you have an actual foot bath that will massage your feet while you soak, or you just grab a random bucket (maybe even a salad bowl, I’m not judging), foot soaks are awesome. For a lot of people, long days and sore feet go hand in hand. This is a way to heal your aches or simply just calm your nerves.

  1. Talking It Out

Sometimes, life is complete bullsh*t. There’s nothing wrong with calling up a friend or your mom and letting your troubles air out. Everyone needs to vent sometimes and it can be very therapeutic. My only advice is to be careful who you vent to. You might think a co-worker will understand your struggle best, but you can’t be too careful who you trust with your angry comments.

  1. Plan Something Fun

Nothing helps you forget a bad day like planning out a great one. Whether it’s a simple girls night out on Friday, or a weekend getaway next month, start thinking about an exciting thing you can do to unwind. Not only are you focusing on a positive thing, you’re also giving yourself something to look forward that will help you push through when the next bad day comes along.

  1. A Glass Of Wine

The answer to your troubles could be a quick stop at the local liquor store. While I don’t recommend downing a bottle of vodka, a glass or two of wine won’t hurt. Self-medicating with alcohol is a serious issue, but a glass of wine can be very calming and beneficial for your health. If you’re drinking to forget or get drunk, you’re probably going about this the wrong way and may need to talk to a professional to help you find healthier ways to cope. But, if you’re indulging for the sake of a little relaxation, carry on.

  1. Netflix

Just Netflix. Ignore your phone, get off social media, eliminate all stress. Just you and whatever show you’re binge watching these days. The only other thing that should be on your mind is a carton of ice cream or bag of potato chips. Shifting focus to something else, even something as simple as a TV show or movie, can be a serious game changer when it comes to daily stress.

  1. Go To Bed Early

Get in your comfiest pajamas and tuck yourself into bed early. Take some time to read a good book, listen to a bit of music, or just go right to sleep. Taking a little rest is one of the best ways to bring you back down to earth when things are getting overwhelming. It’s worth noting that stress can bring on a lot of unwanted health issues and fighting back with extra rest is essential.

  1. Snuggles

If you have a significant other, take some time out of your evening to just relax with them. Cuddle up and just enjoy each other’s company for a minute. (Note: a best friend is more than acceptable as a replacement.) When the world is spinning out of control, it’s important to take time to stand still with your partner, to help you take on the crazy world.

  1. Massage Chairs

Massage chairs and cushions are honestly such a wonderful investment. Back pain is common after a hectic day and beyond that, massages are freaking amazing. I don’t know about anyone else, but I don’t have $200 to drop on a massage every week. Investing in a quality massage chair allows you unlimited, relaxing massages everyday.

We live in world that tells us we should be constantly on the go. We’re taught that needing breaks makes you weak and taking time for yourself is selfish. The truth? Screw that noise. Self-care is not only important for your personal well-being, but also necessary if you’re going to be able to offer anything to anyone else. Take the time you need to be the best version of yourself that you can possibly be!
