To Know You, Is Enough: What Life Would Be Like If I Had Never Met You

As 2015 rapidly comes to an end, it is time to reflect on a year that was filled with incessant hills and valleys. As with all life’s various affairs, this year was not always smooth sailing. People are often not who we think they are; the tide is ever-changing. These past 365 days wouldn’t have been the same without someone in all of our lives. This certain someone, while variant from person to person, left an imprint this year. Regardless of whether this someone is still present in your life, I encourage you to reflect on 2015 and how this person impacted your year. Nostalgia can be a fickle bastard, but no matter where you two stand now, your someone entered and/or exited your life this past year for a purpose. The following is dedicated to my someone in addition to all your someone’s, too:

If I had never met you, I wouldn’t know the power that is present in love.

If I had never met you, I wouldn’t know how much of a nurturer I am deep down.

If I had never met you, I wouldn’t know the extreme pleasure or exquisite pain that comes from loss; I wouldn’t be haunted by the ghost of a new stranger.

If I had never met you, I wouldn’t know the value of a true partner in crime.

If I had never met you, I wouldn’t believe that love can be the result of a blossomed friendship.

If I had never met you, I wouldn’t know that someone’s presence could be electric, even my own.

If I had never met you, I wouldn’t know how satisfying true laughter is when combined with true love.

If I had never met you, I wouldn’t know that emotional pain is oftentimes more potent than physical pain.

If I had never met you, I would not know the value of the Los Angeles Dodgers or the delicacy that is Jack Daniels Tennessee Honey.

If I had never met you, I would still be the same girl I was one year ago; I wouldn’t have grown and morphed into the one I am now.

If I had never met you, I wouldn’t know the value of a promise woven from love.

If I had never met you, I wouldn’t be so anxious.

If I had never met you, I wouldn’t be so awake.

If I had never met you, I wouldn’t have such an affinity for late-night snacks in bed, crumbs aplenty.

If I had never met you, I wouldn’t know the magnitude of being so blissfully thankful.

If I had never met you, I wouldn’t know how to roast the perfect filet of salmon.

If I had never met you, I wouldn’t know how powerful time is, how vigorous nostalgia is, how encompassing devastation is.

If I had never met you, I wouldn’t know how beautiful I was.

If I had never met you, I wouldn’t have such a high guard up.

If I had never met you, I wouldn’t be so gentle.

If I had never met you, I wouldn’t be so tough.

If I had never met you, I wouldn’t know what home felt like. If I had never met you, I wouldn’t know that there is a new home waiting for me in the arms of someone I haven’t even met yet. Cheers to the new someones we shall all encounter in 2016, and may those bonds prosper another year.

  1. To be honest the title of this article is totally irrelevant to your article. Not once did you mention how knowing this person is enough nor did you compare your life with or without this person.

Not trying to shit on your writing career or anything… I just think this was poor journalism.
