6 Theories On Who The Black Hood On ‘Riverdale’ Could Be

I’ll admit, my obsession with the show Riverdale has hit an all-time high lately. There is so much to love about it; from the characters to the drama and all the amazing twists and turns you don’t expect.

In the last two weeks we discovered what everyone kind of figured, FP Jones was Alice Cooper’s baby daddy and was the father of Betty’s brother. We also found out that Chic wasn’t who he said he was. Chic, in fact, killed Betty’s actual brother Charles and stole his identity to live with the Cooper’s.

Archie Andrews and his girlfriends family were oddly on bad terms, Nick (aka the rapist rich boy) came back for revenge, Sheriff Keller was under fire and they got a new police cheif, Cheryl laid low for once and is helping her cousin Betty find the Black Hood, Hiram turned his back on Archie and most importantly, there was a huge shooting at the mayoral debate, and the Black Hood is back! How could you keep up with all of that!? It was an epic last two episodes to say the least.

Speculation of who the Black Hood is for a while now and just when you think it’s someone, it’s proven not to be that person (or at least as patterns have shown). Based on a few clues, I have some theories about who the Black Hood could be.

Hal Cooper (Betty’s dad)

My first big clue was the piercing blue eyes we caught a glimpse of when the Black Hood shot Archie’s dad Fred in Pop’s. He’s the only regular cast mate who has those bright of eyes. Another big reason I think it’s been Hal is that the Black Hood became prominent after Hal left the Cooper household when what they thought was Alice’s son moved into the home.

But let’s look deeper into this theory; how else could the Black Hood know so much about Betty as to use her favourite childhood book to create codes that only she could understand, or even get her phone number? Then there was all the connections Betty discovered at the end of last week’s episode. Plus there was a connection to the candy man (who was involved in Hal’s infamous distant relatives, the Blossom family). Tiny details make me believe it’s him.

Claudius Blossom (Cheryl’s Uncle)

While I do firmly believe he and Penelope (Cheryl’s mom) are hooking up and still trying to kill Cheryl and Nana Rose, I’m also determined he too is out to kill people of the town to get back to Hiram Lodge (Veronica’s dad) and the town that ‘turned on him’.

Think about it, Claudius was shunned and ran away as a child, then came back miraculously around the time when the Black Hood was laying low. Now that he’s gone again (presumably) the Black Hood is back. Claudius also has bright blue eyes! It’s a very possible sign he and a few others could be involved in this scam. He and Hal could perhaps?

Sister Woodhouse

I personally think Sister Woodhouse from the Sisters of Mercy could also be hiring someone to be the Black Hood to promote good living. Remember, the Black Hood also stated in a letter that he wanted to get rid of all the sinners. Polly (Betty’s sister) and Alice both went there and were both targets during this time and were once residents of the cult-like church. The Sisters of Mercy would also try to get the sin out of your system.

Ethel’s Dad

Although we have not seen him, he’s another character who has laid primarily low yet has been part of some interesting storylines, and I’m sure is about to be introduced to audiences soon. He’s an enemy of the Lodge’s who are trying to “ruin” Riverdale, and the Black Hood is trying to “save it” from the Lodge’s by attacking their allies or questionable people who are close to them but are unsure of their relationship with them.

Smithers (Veronica’s Former Doorman)

Since the Black Hood has been around, where did Smithers go? He too has piercing blue eyes and got fired from the Lodge residence and replaced with someone new. I believe Hiram hired him to kill the sinners of the town, such as Archie’s dad because of his kiss with Veronica, for example. Riverdale has a habit of choosing the most unexpected when you believe it’s someone obvious.

Tall Boy (Former Serpent Right-Hand Man)

Like Smithers, he hasn’t been in the picture for a while, so where could he be? Plus, the Black Hood hasn’t targeted any south side members as of yet, they’ve all been from the north. He too had blue eyes and hasn’t been around for the Black Hood action, so he’s a solid suspect too.

Regardless of who it is, I can only assume that we will hopefully find out by the end of the season, or we’ll be left with a painful cliffhanger. I will say though, the writers of this show have done a phenomenal job at teasing us, twisting the storylines and paying attention to detail. Whether the Black Hood kills me next or not, this show will be the death of me because I can’t stop watching it.
