The T-Swift We All Once Knew Is Officially Dead

On August 24th, 2017, the Taylor Swift that we all know and love, died. Like a phoenix rising from the ashes, a new, dark and powerful Taylor Swift has emerged with a vengeance. Our girl is not only back to take down the haters, but she is also back to show the world she only grew stronger. As the lyrics to her new highly anticipated single, “Look What You Made Me Do” states: “I’m sorry, the old Taylor can’t come to the phone right now. Why? Oh, ’cause she’s dead!”

For three years we have been desperately needing “Swiftie” back in our lives. Providing us with lyrics to quote, tunes to get us through our break ups and giving us the girl power that we have desperately been needing to stand firm. For three years we have all felt lost in the world, not knowing how to negotiate enemies, break ups, make ups or even how to “Shake It Off” (Pun intended). For three years, we have felt like our very best friend was hiding in the shadows, afraid to emerge and cause any more controversy that has been following her, but today my friends, our girl is back to show the world that she wouldn’t let it hold her down anymore.

Look What You Made Me Do” is not only a side of Taylor we have yet to see, it is the comeback of all comebacks. Just looking at the lyrics, she is out on a rampage, ready to let the world know that she has had enough. The question is, with who? The song can be interrupted in many different ways. From Kanye and Kim to Katy and Calvin, or even the paparazzi, this song can be targeting anyone with these lyrics:

“But I got smarter, I got harder in the nick of time

Honey, I rose up from the dead, I do it all the time

I’ve got a list of names and yours is in red, underlined

I check it once, then I check it twice, oh!”

Or she could just be paying homage to Arya Stark from Game of Thrones. That is all left to your interpretation. Either way, the lyrics are cut throat and telling the world that she has had enough. This is her warning call, this album isn’t going to be anything like Taylor’s last album, but there is a similarity to the release of it.

Similar to the launch of Taylor’s 1989 album, “Shake It Off” was a great comeback from a hiatus to tear down her haters, but “Look What You Made Me Do” takes come back songs to another level. “Shake It Off” was a great way in the sense that it created this ingenious brain worm that you could never get rid of and it was easy to push it to the top of the charts. Same with “Look What You Made Me Do” with its catchy lyrics, but the major difference between the songs is the sound. A darker tone to set off this new side to Taylor, setting the mood for an edgier type of album than we had ever heard of from her.

Ultimate Ginger View: Pre-ordered and can’t handle the anticipation! The song itself is so edgy and real, making me want this album right now! Whether you love it (I do!) or hate it (What is wrong with you?!), you have to admit that Taylor Swift is a musical/marketing genius that doesn’t seem to be going away anytime soon. She is one of those artists that keeps evolving her image and her music to the point we just can’t seem to get enough of it. If you haven’t already, download the song immediately!
