What started as an app for a dad to gain a little control of his son’s phone has turned into an app the entire world can use with the tap of a screen, literally.
Nick Herbert developed ReplyASAP, an app that automatically freezes the phone of the person you are trying to get a hold of until they reply to your text. Genius right?
The proud dad of 12 year old Ben was frustrated by his son not responding to his texts so he created this app. We can all relate, there are moments where we ignore our parents because we are out and they start to panic. Then the panic sets in for you when you see the missed text messages and phone calls.
But don’t worry, you can get your revenge on your parents too when you can’t get a hold of them. You can also use it on your friends and significant others. This can get dangerously messy for couples.
The parent (for example) must download the app and invite the child to also download it. After the child accepts, both people can start sending each other “ASAP messages.” These “ASAP messages” are sent with an alarm. This alarm won’t stop until the message is read, even if your phone is on silent. Much like an alarm clock, you can hit snooze, but only for three minutes.
When an “ASAP message” is delivered, the app takes over the screen, interrupting whatever the recipient is doing on their phone. The sender will then get a notification, depending on the option the recipient reads it or hits snooze. This can only be done if both parties have the app.
The app is free to download, but users will have to pay for bundles, starting at $1.27, depending on how many people they want to connect with. Which isn’t a bad price when it comes to safety and emergencies.
Although it is tempting to bug people with the app, Herbert stresses it should be used for emergencies, as mentioned in an interview with CBS News. “I told my son, ‘If you want to make it urgent send me one of these. If you want to know where some socks are, send a text message and I can reply when I can,’.”
So no sending these messages to your man when he’s out with his friends and you want attention, or to your girlfriends just because you have juicy gossip. Just stick to spamming their phones.
The app became available for Android two weeks ago, and the iOS version for iPhones is expected to launch by the end of September.
