This Empowering Girl Band Will Be Your Next Music Obsession

Love music? Love female empowerment? The Mrs is a Texas-based all-female band that’s setting out to change the way women view themselves and their place in the world, with musical inspirations stemming from Avril Lavigne, Kelly Clarkson, Pink, and of course Madonna. I had the pleasure of chatting with Andra Liemandt, a member of The Mrs, to hear more about their mission and their plans for changing up the music scene.

Being women, moms, daughters, etc., these women are determined to reach out to the females of the world and inspire them to live their dreams. Isn’t that what we all want? Andra tells us that nothing should get in the way of that. They have a devoted fan base that not only humbles the band but empowers them to continue to make a difference. The women grew up with positive female support systems that have encouraged them to make doing what they love a way to help the world around them. Andra says that becoming a mother was also a big part of her inspiration, saying, But becoming a mother taught me even deeper lessons about strength, and my girls are a huge source of inspiration to me every day. I know they’re watching, and I want to pass on the values of passion, drive, and being independently-minded.”

Today, young women need more than ever to feel as if they’re enough, and that’s exactly what The Mrs is here to relay to all the ladies of the world. The Mrs is on a mission to connect with and empower women like us, who strive for a full life and want to have it all: personal relationships, careers, marriages, children, and friendships. The core message of our band is that you are enough, and that’s an ethos each of us tries to live by.” To help back up this message, they released a song called “Enough,” that exemplifies the need for all of us to realize that there’s so much potential inside of us that we just need to embrace. Andra told us that her children were the main inspiration behind this song. “They were the inspiration behind “Enough,” which helped catapult the band to where we are now… I was tucking one of them in one night after an extremely hard day, and she looked up at me and said, ‘You’re the best mommy in the whole world.’ It made me pause and realize that despite how mean I’d been to myself all day, she saw me in a totally opposite light. She saw me as whole and wonderful.”

Even in 2017, women’s rights are being challenged, especially in the heat of the recent election. When asked about how this impacts their mission, Andra said “Our mission is strengthened when women get onboard with the idea that they are enough just the way they are. At its core, it’s a message of radical self-acceptance, and I think that message is just as relevant as ever.

In this day and age, it’s tough for me to prescribe any one course of action to anybody since we’re all accountable for our own actions. But our songs “Enough,” “The Beast,” and “Most Likely To Be Me” are celebrations of our unique selves. We believe that once you embrace who you are, it’s a lot easier to be kinder to everyone as you follow your passions.”

The Mrs just released a new lyric video for their song “Cravings,” which you can check out here!
