7 Simple Things That Will Make You Instantly Happier

Happiness can seem like a simple thing, but when you feel down it can be hard to find that emotion again. I don’t know about you, but I’m in the middle of soul searching, and it can be tough. If you are trying to work on your happiness you have come to the right place! I find a lot of people over-think what makes them happy. Sometimes it just comes down to the simple stuff.

  1. Make sure your room is filled with things you love.

Your room is your space. When my head feels cluttered, I will go in my room, clean it, and get rid of things I don’t want anymore. I filled my room with candles, books, and photo’s because they make me happy. I love turning on my lamp, lighting a candle and snuggling into bed with a book in my hands. It’s a simple way to bring me out of the dumps.

  1. Exercise.

When I am feeling cranky, I will go to the gym. When I walk out I have the biggest smile on my face because I feel great. Honestly, exercising is a natural way to boost your mood. I go five days a week, and I have noticed a drastic increase in my level of happiness!

  1. Be kind to others.

People feed off positive reinforcement. You can help by giving people compliments and showing your appreciation for them. Even if you hold the door open for someone, not only will you feel good about yourself, you’ll be making someone’s day.

4. Be kind to yourself.

I would say this is the hardest one on the list, only because you have to change the way you think. I would start practicing this now. If you are struggling to be happy, chances are you put yourself down. Once you learn how to treat yourself right, you’ll have a caring space within you for yourself. Self-kindness is the key to having a healthy mindset and learning to be happy.

  1. Write down your goals, dreams, and accomplishments.

If you buy a journal and write down your goals and dreams, they’re leaving your head and transferring to a piece of paper. It will feel more achievable. In this journal, also add the things you accomplish! It will be nice to look back on when you’re feeling down about yourself.

  1. Go outside.

Learn to love the outdoors! When I go for a hike or a walk, or even just read outside, I feel so good after. Studies show that nature lowers depression and anxiety. I know when you’re feeling down, going outside may be the last thing you want to do, but trust me when I say you’ll feel better.

  1. Eat healthy foods.

The saying is true, you are what you eat! If you fuel your body with junk, you’ll feel sluggish and bloated. If you eat healthy foods, you’re getting nutrients and vitamins. You’ll be full, and proud of yourself for eating well! Overall, you’ll feel happy because you’re eating healthy.

Your happiness and your needs are important and need to be put first. If you are struggling right now, start focusing on the small things like this list, and if you’re still not happy, reach for bigger things. Maybe you need a new hobby, a career change, or maybe you need to meet new friends. Put your happiness first, and you’ll be okay!
