10 Non-Boring Topics To Keep The Convo Flowing On Any Date

Sometimes it’s difficult to find a conversation starter when you really want to get to know someone new. Whether you are just breaking the ice with your crush over text or going out on a first date, catching someone’s interest can be tough. There are the obviously typical conversation starters like “Are you a cat or dog person”, “What is your favorite movie/book”, or “What is your favorite food” that everyone uses at some point in the conversation. But can any of these really get the other person to open up? Instead of drawing back on these usual topics here’s a list of questions that could get the conversation flowing in a different way than those typical cliché question ever could.

  1. What’s the craziest party you have ever been to?

This one is great because you can see whether the person is a party animal or not. You can tell if you have met a kindred spirit or someone who is not your speed.

  1. Do you still keep in touch with your childhood friends?

If he does, that could possibly mean that he likes to invest time in his relationships. This can also lead into some funny or memorable childhood experiences and anecdotes that he had with his friend.

  1. If you won the lottery what would you do?

It might be a typical question, but this never gets old. Realistically, how many of us don’t fantasize about winning the lottery? It’s always nice to see what priorities the other person has.

  1. What was the best birthday gift you have ever gotten?

A great question to ask if you think you will ever buy this person a gift. Also, a great way to see what holds value to him.

  1. What’s the most spontaneous thing you have ever done?

Is this person a free spirit who can hop on a plane without a plan, or does he consider himself a rebel when he comes to a lecture five minutes late? This can initiate some pretty interesting anecdotes or point to the fact that you might not have that much in common.

  1. How would you deal with an alien invasion?

Ask questions related to his favorite TV shows/movies and how he would act in those situations. This can also work with “what would you do during a zombie apocalypse” and would you ever battle for the iron throne.

  1. If you had to spend a whole weekend with one person, famous or not, dead or alive who would it be?

This is a new twist on “who is one person you would invite to dinner”. This question can also work with “who would you put on a presidential ballot”, or “who is one person you would collaborate with”.

  1. If you could travel to any point in time, where would you go?

The majority of us wish time travel was possible. This is your chance to see what he finds important in history and how well rounded he is.

  1. What’s the most recent dream you had?

Not everyone remembers their dreams so this might not work for some people. However, if he does have vivid dreams this would be a good way to see what goes on in his subconscious mind.

  1. Would you ever get your fortune told?

This is a great way to tell whether the person is superstitious or whether he lives in the moment. Also, if he does, this can also be a potential date idea.

Sometimes it’s difficult to get the conversation flowing. Getting to know someone takes time and effort. If there is no chemistry at first don’t write the person off right away, there is always the possibility that he just takes some time to open up.
