A Special Thank You To My Guy Best Friend

Now some people believe that boys and girls can’t be friends without it becoming more, but I disagree. I have a great best friend who is a guy. I have only been best friends with him for just over three months, but in that short time, he really has become one of my best friends. He takes care of me and I take care of him. I have even asked him if he would consider being one of my bridesmaids! He is someone that I can count on, someone who doesn’t let me down and that means a lot to me.

Having a boy best friend is different from having a girl best friend. They have a different perspective from girls, you can ask about the opposite sex, they can help you change your light bulbs and they can cheer you up when you need it most.

So this one is for you.

Thank you for putting up with all my bullshit. For letting me take out my bad day on you, even when it’s not your fault. You just let me, be me. You know that I’ll be fine next time and that I’m just having a bad day. Laughing it off when I apologize for my bullshit because you say “you can take it” or “that it’s your job,” because honestly it isn’t.

Thank you for helping me. You’re always there when I write my school papers even when you should be doing your own. Thank you for changing my light bulbs and cleaning my kitchen without being asked. Saying you don’t need help because “you’re the man and you got it.” Or saying “you do so much for you, I can do this for you.”

Thank you for making me smarter. You push me to do better in school. You always make me ask questions when I don’t understand something. You inform me about the world. You make me want to be more knowledgeable, and Google has become one of my new best friends because of you.

Thank you for making me feel good about myself. Saying I look good when I put in the effort to dress up but never questioning me when I’m in my pajamas and wearing glasses. You love me the same no matter what I look like. Thank you for reminding me that I deserve a lot, I forget sometimes.

Thank you for having friend dates with me. Cooking dinner on the nights we don’t feel like doing anything special. Going for the movie that I’ve been talking about going to see. Grocery shopping because I don’t want to go alone. Even just hanging out and watching Netflix until I fall asleep.

Thank you for paying attention to the little details I say, like remembering my shoe size or foods that I just won’t eat. Thank you for all the little things because to me, they aren’t little. Thank you for every single thing that you do for me and know that I would do the same for you. At the end of the day I know you will drop everything for me, so what more could I ask for?
