I Ate Chia Seeds For 30 Days Straight And Here’s What Happened

Now, I know you’re probably thinking, “oh here we go again, another superfood”. Here me out. Chia seeds changed my life. Now I know you’re probably wondering how that’s even possible. Some of you are probably thinking “chia…like chia pets?” Yup. That’s them. Chia seeds are #blessed. They’ve been a part of my diet for almost three years now, but I started noticing changes in my body within the month. So here’s 5 reasons you should add chia seeds to your diet.

Chia seeds make you full

You probably didn’t know this but chia seeds expand when they’re soaked. A jelly forms around the seed and they clump together. I’m not going to lie to you, they aren’t easy to swallow at first because it isn’t the best texture. Once you get past the jelly clumps, you will find that you’re less hungry when you start eating them. Add them to your usual meals and you’ll be full for longer.

Chia seeds help you poop

I know some of us try to deny this, but we all poop. And yes, I do too *gasp*. For a long time, I actually wasn’t able to. So I tried a ton of different things, prunes, Metamucil, you name it. Then I heard about the amount of fiber a single tablespoon of chia seeds has (a whopping 5g) and figured I would give them a try, and guess what? It was the best decision I have ever made. Ever since I started eating them, I have had zero problems and I no longer feel bloated and backed up. I promise, if you can’t poop, chia seeds are the answer to your prayers. I noticed changes within 3 days of eating them.

Chia seeds help you reduce your belly fat

Since these little guys help you poop, you’re no longer backed up. The most important thing to remember is to drink a lot of water. Not only is water good for you, but it helps moves things along. I swear, my old jeans fit again and I was more confident in crop tops. Chia seeds are *magical*.

Chia seeds are a good source of protein

Whether you’re a carnivore or a vegetarian, chia seeds are a great source of protein. We all need protein in our lives, and chia seeds contain 3g of protein in every tablespoon. Personally, I’m a vegetarian and I know that in one day, chia seeds guarantee 18g of protein in my diet. Chia seeds are a great substitute because you can add them to anything and you don’t have to cook them.

Chia seeds are super versatile

Just like Frank’s Hot Sauce, you can put this sh*t on everything. Smoothies, soups, stews, cereals, toast, you name it. You can grind them or leave them as is, and they will add some extra goodness to anything you are eating. The easiest way to have them is to mix them in water and let them soak for 5 minutes. I usually do this when I’m in a hurry and don’t have time to have breakfast. The longer they soak, the better. Just make sure you keep stirring them.

Chia seeds aren’t cheap, but I promise you that they’re worth every penny. I swear by them and highly recommend them to everyone. I noticed a change in my body within three days. It’s been three years now and I feel great and love the changes that have come from including them in my diet. My hair and nails have grown faster and stronger, and my iron and blood sugar levels are finally normal. Chia seeds are awesome. I challenge you to add chia seeds to your diet for a month. 1. Kay, I have heard that it’s best to slowly introduce Chia seeds into your diet. Maybe a teaspoon a day and then if that doesn’t cause bad effects, increase another teaspoon, repeat until you hit the recommended serving size on the package, 2 tablespoons a day I think is max. Be sure to soak them in water too, for best nutrient absorption. Otherwise you may experience bloating, constipation, and the opposite of what you want from Chia seeds. Not true for everyone but I’ve heard it happens to some people and it’s probably better to play it safe and soak the seeds in water like the article suggests, until they are not crunchy and have a gel consistency.

  2. If you have soft poop (that doesn’t clean up easily even after 4 wipes), try chia seeds. These have firmed up my poop and life is so much easier! Take them daily and experiment with how much works for you. I found taking too much makes it difficult to poop. Took a bit less and it’s perfect.

    • I haven’t been able to pass a normal stool for 3 years. I’m on to my 4th naturopath who told me to have 2 tablespoons of chia seeds after dinner. After 3 days, MY POO IS NORMAL

    • Seriously?! This will help with that problem? I am definitely doing the chia seeds, then. (And, I’m glad to see that someone else understands this delicate issue – I thought it was just me!)

    • I like to make “chia pudding” by soaking them in half coconut milk and mighty mango juice. I add grapes, mangos a little banana. Sometimes a touch of vanilla. That’s my favorite breakfast!☺️

  3. I started to put Chia seed in my salad or shake drinking yesterday, I noticed that I feel better lot because I felt bloated all time but I feel empty my stomach. I have Relux Acid since 2 years. Will Chia seed improve my Relux Acid? Will Chia seed help to lose weight? I hope so ha

  4. Ive been drinking a cucumber with chia for 7 months i love it i was wearing a 22w pants went to an 18 feels great

    • You have to drink a ton of water a day…I drink 100 oz daily and experience very little constipation. If I do have constipation, it’s always from not drinking enough water the day before or that same day. Also, if you try again (and it’s worth it), start out with very little seeds (like 1/2 tsp daily). Work your way up slowly at your own pace…I bet you won’t have constipation that way.

  5. I’m also a vegetarian who most of my life even when I ate meat always suffered from ibs and constipation. I started making chia puddings for brekkie ideally to help with my low iron. I’ve been eating it for about 1.5 months everyday for brekkie. My bloods just got done and I’m within normal range and it makes me go to the toilet everyday. I love them!! Definitely worth the investment. As said though, it can have the opposite effect on people so introduce them if you’re worried about them backing you up. My thought would be if you’re having them soaked that they wouldn’t cause constipation but I’m no medical precession. 😀

  6. Hi I have been taking chia seeds from the 28th of October .When do I see results because I feel as though I gained weight instead of losing.

  7. I sprinkled a little chia seed in my salad a few days ago. I can’t stay out of the bathroom 4 days later. I didn’t drink water with it. I usually have issues with constipation and hard stools. I feel like I’m getting a colon cleanse. Not a bad thing but enough already! I won’t be eating chia seeds again!

  9. I love chia seeds and have been eating them for over a month now, pretty much every day. I didn’t work my way up. I just took a large mason jar and poured about a cup in with cashew milk or whatever liquid, and flavorings/fruits, and I eat about 1 cup prepared each morning for breakfast, and scoop some out of this jar for snacks throughout the day. This jar will last me about a day, with me making a new batch each morning after I finish it off. I’m not fully vegan but I definitely have a hard time digesting meat and dairy, due to not having a gall bladder. I try my best to drink 100 to 120 ounces of water a day, so consuming such a large amount that has been soaked in liquid has not caused me any constipation. If I eat too much of the chia pudding, then I am easily going to the bathroom more than three times a day. But if I eat just a few servings a day, especially on days that we eat a low fiber meal, then I have no problems going to the bathroom right after each meal.

  10. I love chia seeds! I just started 1 week ago and it has helped my poop from hard pushing every few days to a nice, soft, comes right out for the past 4 days which is so great if constipation is a problem for you. I soak 2 1/2 tablespoons in almond milk, add some walnuts, almond slivers, shredded coconut, dash of sweetener, cinnamon, vanilla, and a little serving of vanilla probiotic yogurt. Also sprinkled in raspberries a few times. I think it is tasty, filling and giving me good poops so I am sticking with it. I also drink about 6 Subway cups of water a day, which is probably around 180 ounces so my water intake is pretty high.

  11. I put them in a small amount of coconut let soak in fridge over night and drink/eat for breakfast in the jelly form. Delicious

  12. G’day what is the best & easiest way to prepare these seeds also can you add them to a cup of tea if so how much to one cup of tea? Do you have to have the seeds soaked no matter what your putting them into? Cheers

  13. I learned of Chia pudding this year and got instantly obsessed. I eat a large container of it daily for breakfast because I love to eat, and it’s filling, and it’s delicious. I make my breakfast every night before going to bed: 2 cups of Almond/Cashew Milk and 8 Tablespoons of black chia. I also mix in 1/4 cup of large shredded coconut, a teaspoon of golden milk powder, and 1/8 teaspoon of Ashwaghanda. It’s an incredible meal and I can’t get enough of it.

  14. I had a terrible experience with chia seeds. I put 1 tbsp in half a cup of almond milk and I feel like they have not digested fully in my esophagus. I do also drink a ton of water. I hope this feeling goes away soon!! 🙁

    • Hi it’s extremely important to soak chia seeds, they got soluble fibers that can absorb up to 12 times their volume in liquid. If not soaked, they can completely block your digestive track!!!

  15. I’ve been taking his seeds and i see nothing I have so much trouble with pooping so I figured this would hell but nooo.. maybe Im not taking them the right way. I’m mixing it with my yogurt.. whats the right way to consume them for them to do any affect??

    • If you don’t let the chia seeds gel up and end up eating them in their dried form, they’ll actually constipate you because they’re pulling water from your own resources to gel up. I like to grind a tablespoon up in a powder and then add it to my smoothies.

    • I did the same thing, added a pinch to my yogurt and OMG what a disaster, pain for days, they tore up my stomach. Never again. the package does not have any warnings, you have to soak first. Not worth it for me, I will stick with raisins to help me be regular with the bathroom issue…pistachios also helps.

  16. Omgosh, Chia Seeds are incredible!
I love the texture. At first, I started with a teaspoon, now I’m up to 2+ Tablespoons a day.
I soak in water for 10-15 minutes. On day three of doing this, I had and continue to have the BEST bowel movements that I have EVER had in my 50 years. I love that they fill me up, and because they are a protein source, they sustain me until the next meal. Because I am gluten intolerant, the VERY BEST part of chia seeds, is that they are GLUTEN FREE!
I do not know why someone would put them in food, unless they pre-hydrate them. Chia seeds NEED WATER to hydrate, so if you put them in foods, they will naturally draw out water from your food, and your stomach, which I can imagine could be tough to excrete? If you do not pre-hydrate, do not eat chia seeds. They do have a warning that they could get stuck in your esophagus—come on y’all, like my dad always says, let’s “be smarter than the thing that you’re working with!” Use some common sense—when used correctly, you’re going to get ALL of the benefits from daily use of chia seeds. Btw—I’m NOT selling them, just a average consumer like you. I’m just amazed with how well they work!

  17. I did a massive poop today and it’s my first day trying Chia Seeds
I’ve had a packet in my cupboard for months but I only chose to open it today
I had it with hot water , lime (lemsip & Tumeric Tea
    I feel excellent today !!!

  18. I ate them raw and they caused painful poop. Now I soak them in water for few hours before consuming with smoothie and they are great.

  19. Before consuming, must soak in liquid for the seeds to gel! 1/4 cup to 1 cup liquid. I prefer soak overnight.
I love the jelled chia mixed with 1/2 a diced kiwi for evening snack before bed to ward off the hunger pangs during the night. I sleep soundly now.

  21. I have been trying chia seeds for at least 2 weeks. So far I have not noticed anything different. I take them in the early morning with warm lemon water. I let them sit for at least 20 min. I am hoping they will soon start to work.
I started to like weight, but so far no on that too. I weigh between 155 and 159. My waist is around 39 inches.
I also do not eat much. I suspect I may have insulin resistance.
What am I doing wrong? I am also not a bigger eater either but struggle with weight loss

  22. When I get the sense that I need to move things along… I usually mix chia with hemp and water. It tastes decent enough, but it sure helps slide things through. Stuff that has been hanging around for quite some time I suspect.

  23. I need something to help to firm up the old bowel situation, I am going to start sprinkling small amounts in my cereal, as I assume by soaking them in water, this would loosen the bowel movement. Does this sound right?

    • Be very careful. They will stick like glue to your bowl. Pre mix the seeds in liquid before you add them to your cereal. I ended up in the ER because I did this. I was in excruciating pain.

  24. I make a protein shake of casein or whey and mix it with five tablespoons of chia. The water content is half a litre.
At the bottom of my dish I add either dried cranberries, seedless grapes, diced prunes, diced dates or any sweet dried fruit. This acts as a sweetener. Leave to soak in the fridge overnight and that’s my delicious breakfast every morning. Keeps me regular and lowered my cholesterol and fills me for hours.

  25. Chia seeds (chia pudding) made me poop 3x /2x per day. 4 teaspoons in almond milk, left over night.

Felt I did a cleanse, would recommend. Made me full and cleaned me out. I’ve also lost some weight

  26. I tried chia seeds for 30 days and here’s what happened. I lost weight, had more energy, and felt better overall. I would definitely recommend trying them out!

  27. I have been different flavors of overnight pudding and having a some for breakfast. I haven’t really noticed any difference…I hope it’s helping…I’ve only been eating them for a couple of weeks.

  28. Chia seeds pudding is one of the healthier things that you can do to help your body.
    Talking from experience.

  29. I eat so many chia seeds that I could be a chia pet!!! I just started them about a month ago and eat them hydrated or not. Sprinkle them whole on salads and sautéed veggies, used them to put a coating on seasoned salmon before baking, put a few in my flax seed muffins.. probably eat 5-10 tablespoons per day. I have had no problems pooping, I have no blockages, been great! I have lost weight and my cholesterol dropped more than 55 points! BUT I will add that I’ve been diabetic for 23 years at least and also JUST switched to an ultra low carb diet too. I so hope I stick to this and it becomes my forever way of eating. I’m eating so much better now.. full alot.. more energy… chia seeds have definitely helped me in a big way (along with my other changes) I lost 15 lbs the first two weeks!

  30. Had the exact opposite on me. Soaked 1/2c in 2c pea protein milk overnight. I live in the tropics and drink more than a gallon of water a day. Won’t be eating chia pudding every morning anymore. I was completely regular before adding them. Sadly, as I loved it.

  31. I feel like chia seeds are not all the same. My mom uses the big bag from Costco and I use Bob’s Red Mill brand I get at Superstore. I ran out of mine and was using my moms for about 4 days. I didn’t go to the bathroom once. Ive been back on mine for 3 days and I back to glorious regular poops. Also chia seeds can go bad(rancid) they last way longer when kept in the fridge 🙂

  32. Yes I just started chia seeds my nail tech told me about it, I was not pooing like I should it’s day three I have started to pooing and I noticed how full I feel after eating a meal this is very true

  33. I tried chia seeds for 30 days and here’s what happened. I lost weight, had more energy, and felt better overall. I would definitely recommend trying them out!

  34. Ooof I been eating 3 tablespoons of chia seeds and also 3 tablespoons of hemp seeds in almond milk. Been a good normal amount. Sooo much bloating though, and super gassy. I need to stick to 1 tablespoon a day and drink plenty of water, and some magnesium wouldn’t hurt.
